Burt was born on July 12, 1927 in Belvedere Gardens, California. He attended high school in Los Angeles, California and joined the Navy at age 17. Burt served on the US Saratoga in World War II. After his time with the military, he returned home to take care of his family. During that time, he gained employment in the masonry industry and began his own masonry business. In 1954, he married Donna Loiuse Huff and continued his masonry business. Burt followed his passion of drawing and found himself pursuing and industrial design career with his company Property Concepts Inc. He enjoyed his many travels to Asia, especially the art and the cuisine. Burt is survived by his three children, Randi Brewer, Richk Christiansen, Delisa Christiansen, his daughter in law, Heather Christiansen, his five grandchildren Megan, Shannon, Rian, Jamie and Skylar, and his three siblings Carl (Bud) Christiansen, Norma Clarno, and Marie A. (Dixie) Matthews, all of whom he loved greatly. Burt's sister, Camilla Deffenbaugh, predeceased him. Funearl servics will be held at 1:30 p.m on Friday, September 23, 2005 at Rose City Cemetery and Funeral Home. Private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Community Church in Vancouver, Washington. |

The deceased lived for a number of years in the Grand Valley country. He, with his family came to Thunder Hawk about a year ago to conduct the hotel, which they purchased at that time. Mr. Melby was about 56 years of age and leaves to mourn his death - a widow and two sons and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the American Lutheran Church in this city Monday afternoon, Rev. Munkold officiating, and interment was made in the local cemetery. The service was attended by a large number of old neighbors and friends. The beautiful floral offerings were true evidence of the esteem in which the deceased was held. |

9 | 1325 | documents | Nellie Melby Obiturary | Mrs. Nellie Melby, Well Known Cafe Owner, Passes Had Successfully Conducted Hotel Business at Thunder Hawk and Restaurants here Residents of Lemmon and cicinity were saddened Friday when death claimed Mrs. Nellie Melby, proprietor of Melby's Cafe, and for many years a resident and business woman in this city, at her home at 5:45 o'clock p.m. that day. Death was due to a heart attack suffered earlier in the day. She had been ill and confined to her home the past three weeks, her condition becoming critical Friday morning and death ensued in the afternoon. Nellie Oakland was born at Bergen, Norway, on January 30, 1890, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Nels Oakland. She spent her early childhood and recieved her education in that country. In her twenties, Mrs. Melby and one brother, Hans Nelson, emmigrated to the United States, the former locationg at Madison, S.D., where she had employment in a hotel, and the latter remaining at Clarksville, Minn., where he resided up until five or six years ago when he moved to Minneapolis, same state. Deceased came to Lemmon from Madison in 1913 and during that year was united in marriage in this city to Sam Melby, to chich union was born two sons. Mr. and Mrs. Melby and family, after living here a few years, filed on a homestead southeast of Thunder Hawk where they made their home until the former's health failed. In July, 1927, the Melby family moved to the village of Thunder Hawk where Mrs. Melby conducted a hotel and restaurant for a year or more. Mr. Melby preceded his wife in death at Thunder Hawk during that year, his passing due to canceer. Discontinuing the business in that village, Mrs. Melby and two sons moved to Lemmon about seven years ago since which time deceased had operated cafe's and restaurants. Left to mourn her passing are two sons, Harold 20, and Kenneth, 18; one brother, Hans Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn., and two sisters and one brother in Norway. A large concourse of sorrowing friends gathered at the American Lutheran church in this city Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock to pay their last tribute to the departed. The Rev. Holm of Strool officiated at the final rites. Her body was laid to rest. in Greenhill cemetery. Pall bearers wer: O.T. Finand. H.A. Kelm, Olaf Olson, John Kvale, Norman Fogel and Otto Rodenbour. Those from a distance who attended the funeral services were: Rudolph Nelson, a nephew of the deceseasd; and Hans Oakland of Clarksville, Minn., a cousin. |

Han deltok i to sesonger som skytter og selfanger i Nordishavet og på Grønland. Fra 1904 til 1911 arbeidet han som reparatør og dykker på Borregaard. I 1911-12 arbeidet han ved ferjestedet i Sannesund. I 1912 ble Mellebye ansatt i Sarpsborg Havnevesen og arbeidet som dykker og havnearbeider inntil han gikk av med pensjon i slutten av 1946. Mellebye var i 3 perioder fra 1923-31, medlem av havnestyret. Mellebye var en flink og trofast arbeidskar og meget avholdt av alle som kjente ham. |

Men i den fjrede nattevakt kom Jesus vandrende på sjøen". Presten minnet om at Jesus kom i den time da de aller mest trengte ham. Slik vil han også komme til oss i vår nød. Han vet om oss og kjenner oss og vil gi den trøst og den hjelp vi trenger. Det er også trøst å vite at avdøde fikk en skjønn utgang av livet og inngang til dne evige herlighet. Til slutt bar presten fram en takk for hva avdøde hadde fått være for sine og lyste Guds fred og signing over minnet. Etter talen ble sunget: "Nærmere deg min Gud", hvoretter solisten sang "Hjemlandsklokker", og etter jordfestelsen med skriftlesning ble den vakre minnestund avsluttet med at organisten spilte "Siste reis" av Elv Alngås mens båren ble ført ut til det siste hvilested. Ved graven ble sunget "Skal vi møtes hist ved Døden", Marskalker var Erik Ruud og Robert Fronth." |

Ingeniør Oskar Hoffman ble i går bisatt i Det nye Krematorium under stor deltagelse. Tallrike kranser var sendt til båren og det var bl.a. signerte kranser fra A/S Kverner Brug og Oslo Material Prøveanstalt. En trio innledet med "Traumerei" av Schumann og unisont ble sunget: "Nærmere deg min Gud". Sogneprest H. C. Gjesdahl, Vestre Aker, forrettet. Etter å ha lest Kirkens ritual og talt om apostelen Paulus ord: "Intet kan skille os fra Guds kjærlighet", minte sognepresten om ingeniør Hoffmanns rike arbeidslyst og den betydningsfulle gjerning han fikk utført. Etter talen sang man "En dalende dag" og kisten ble senket til Schuberts "Ave Maria". Marskalker var kjemiker Rolf Røer og laborant Alf K. Michelsen. |
