Emma R. "Amy" Hagberry, 89, died Feb. 13, 2005, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Three of her sons and a grandson were with her at the end.
She was born July 19, 1915, on a homestead south of Alexander, N.D., to Frederick and Ingrid Thirud. The eldest of six children, she started helping her father with farming at an early age. Her mother died when she was young and she helped care for her siblings.
After high school she attended beauty school in Fargo, N.D. She came to Cody to visit a friend and stayed and worked.
While at a dance she met Frank C. Hagberry. They were married in 1940 in Billings at the Lutheran Church on Grand Avenue. After settling in Cody they had four sons who were raised here.
Mrs. Hagberry worked all her life but especially enjoyed her time at Spicer's Buffalo Bill Curio Shop and, after retirement, her work at the West Park Hospital gift shop. She was always planting flowers and gardening. She was active in her church and was a member of the VFW Club, Rebekahs and Sage Creek Women's Club.
She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed people.
She is survived by sons Bruce Hagberry of Cody, Gary Hagberry of Cody, Brian Hagberry of New Mexico and D. Keith Hagberry of New Castle, Colo., sisters Joan Orr of Riverside, Calif., Ruth Sands of San Diego, Calif., and Lee Morgan of Cody, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Frank and brothers Edward and Sven Thirud.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church with a reception. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
