      The Amerika belonged to Chr. Stephensen of Arendal. Stephansen was the first Norwegian shipowner to start a regular line between Norway and France, and between Bordeaux and New Orleans. In September 1850 the Amerika sailed from Arendal to New Orleans with 120 passenger of which some was proceeding on to San Francisco. Most of them were going to dig for gold.
